Via Verde Route (The Green route)
1.We take the minibus for a 2 hour drive through the mountains to a small village called Puerto Serrano (Gateway to the mountains) where we will leave the bus overnight and the start the ride to Olvera 36 Kms away.
2. The route is along an old railway track built before the Spanish Civil war and never finished and now developed for mountain biking and walking. It passes through the mountains with over 30 tunnels (these illuminate automatically as you pass through!), 5 old stations and 6 spectacular viaducts for 34km. The route passes along the Guadalete River and through the unique Zaframagón Vulture Reserve where numerous vultures circle overhead and is slightly downhill on the way out (slightly uphill on the way back but hardly noticeable). we will stop halfway for lunch in a converted Station called Coripe.
3. Early evening we will arrive in a small village called Olvera where we will stay overnight in a hotel converted from one of the stations.. In the evening we will stroll into the historical white village of Olvera for a typical Spanish meal.
4. The following morning we retrace our route back to the mini bus in Puerto Serrano for the trip back to the coast. There is an optional stop off to visit Ronda to visit the famous bridge over the gorge & lunch.
N.B. There will be a surcharge of £40 for this excursion to cover 2 meals and hotel overnight.
